The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) used to seek refuge (with Allah) against the Jinn and the evil eye, until the Mu‘awwidhatayn (Sūrat al-Falaq and Sūrat An-Nās) were revealed. After they had been revealed, he used them for seeking Allah's protection and left everything else. [Ibn Maajah]

"كان رسول الله -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَتَعَوَّذُ مِنَ الجَانِّ، وعَيْنِ الإنسان، حتى نَزَلَتْ المُعَوِّذتان، فلمَّا نَزَلَتا، أخذ بهما وتركَ ما سواهما. [صحيح.] - [رواه الترمذي والنسائي وابن ماجه."
